BOATING
Kowie River, Port Alfred
Registrations for boats can be obtained at the Harbour Masters office, in the small boat harbour. Tel/Fax 046-624-4587.
Boats can be launched at the small boat harbour or at the old Municipal slipway, near the tourism office.
We host the most wonderful fishing competitions. Port Alfred is famous for having the distinction of being the third largest "line fishing port" in South Africa.
Waterskiing is allowed at the Bay of Biscay, between Bells Reach and Centenary Park. Between Centenary Park and Rabbit Rock. Please observe the skiing zones demarcated alongside the river.
Please be aware of the wake-free/dead-slow zone from the Nico Malan bridge to the end of the marina near the mouth.
River Cruises
Unwinding on our river cruise is a lovely way to spend the morning or afternoon viewing the scenery on our river. Our cruises leave from the Small Boat Harbor in Port Alfred, our vessels are covered barges. You are welcome to bring along a packed picnic to enjoy, alternatively join us for one of our popular braai cruises: we can also host special events such as birthday parties etc, This is a wonderful way to spend 1.5 to hours learning a bit about our history. Sea and Adrenalin Cruises
If you love the smell of the sea, a breeze tousling your hair our sea cruises are for you! Relax and enjoy the scenic views of our stunning coastline. Early mornings or late afternoons are a perfect time for our sea cruises as we watch the sun rise or set over the Indian Ocean (don't forget your camera)! If you are young and wild at heart try your hand at our adrenaline cruise; we guarantee no rollercoaster will ever seem quite as daunting again! P.S. We provide wetsuits, expect to get soaked!! Fishing Charters
If you find yourself looking for a different way to spend your afternoon why not try your hand at bottom fishing with our friendly skippers and the great part is, you get to keep what you catch! (Within bag limits) Your Rods, reels and bait are supplied for you so you just need to bring warm clothing, hat, sun block, snacks and drinks. Please Note: All people intending to fish must have a valid fishing license. These licenses are available at any post office for a small fee. Read more.....
Skippers Licences
Sea Going: Cat E for vessels only going 1Nm offshore, Cat C for vessels going up to 15Nm offshore and lastly Cat B for vessels going up to 40Nm offshore.
River: If you are a skipper who would prefer to trawl along our beautifulKowieRiver and operate a vessel with an engine over 15hp you will need to get a Cat R skippers License. The Cat R also covers all inland waters, estuaries, lagoons & ports.
Skippers Tuition: To qualify for a skippers licence you must have logged at least 25 – 50 skippering hours. At Outdoor Focus we offer skippering tuition, skipper’s evaluation before your practical exam and Kowie River Mouth training to help you qualify as a skipper.
